Aicia Cuervo
Alicia Cuervo
Founder and Owner of Yin Yang Yoga & Wellness
E-RYT 200 Certified Prana Flow Yoga Instructor

Yoga has given me a love and respect for my body that I never thought possible before. A body that so often I abused with alcohol, cigarettes, lack of sleep, and poor eating habits. The unity between mind, body and soul that practicing yoga has given me is the greatest gift that I have ever received.  Pure love and gratitude is the result.  I created and opened Yin Yang Yoga in 2009 with a strong desire to give this gift to others never envisioning how much love our studio would generate.  Life is so blessed.

My first certifications are through YogaFit, which provided a great foundation to build upon. After several years of practice and teaching, I found myself craving more. In fall of 2010, drawn to a deeper, organic style of yoga coupled with the ancient health care of Ayurveda, I stumbled upon an amazing teacher named Maria Garre.  Under her tutelage I completed an additional 200 hour training in Shiva Rea's fluid power yoga, taught by Maria. The combination of fluid power yoga, Ayurvedic balancing, ancient chant and vibration all assist with a deeper pranic-energy connection in my teaching.  I am finding true life changing balance, joy and understanding at a very deep level.  Life is so blessed. I've had the opportunity to study with an amazing group of yoga teachers and experience first-hand the healing power of yoga in my personal, professional and athletic life. My goal is to continue to share the beauty of yoga, and to provide all of us a beautiful safe place to practice and grow together.

Cynthia has a performance dance background, has trained as an advanced belt in Traditional Tae Kwon Do under the tutelage of Sabumnim Michael Donohue and Grandmaster Hyun Ok Shin in New York and holds certifications in Reiki and Integrated Energy Therapy®. She loves exploring all styles of physical yoga - namely Vinyasa, Jivamukti, Kundalini, Anusara and Restorative - and the Eastern Physical Arts of Qi Gong and Ta'i Chi Chuan. She has received training in Vinyasa under the grace of Shiva Rea at Kripalu and is planning to complete her next teaching certification in Prana Flow®. Her heart, however, lies in yoga that is "beyond the physical"; in Yogic Philosophy, Japa Mala and Chanting (Mantra, Bhajans, Kirtans). She was blessed to have practiced and traveled all around India - from Rishikesh to Kannyakumari and from Mumbai to Chennai - in 2010. It was truly a profound, life changing experience to "live" yoga every day in the land of its birth.

Cynthia has been committed to a personal daily practice of Yoga, Japa Mala & Meditation for the past 9 years. She has been an active member of the Long Island Yoga Association, YTTI Alumni and of Yoga Alliance, and is looking forward to becoming an active member of the Maryland Yoga Community and of the Ying Yang Yoga Center in particular. Megan Bruce

Megan Bruce
Certified Yoga Instructor

My name is Megan Bruce and I am 22 years old. I am originally from Phoenix Arizona and have just recently moved to the Baltimore area. I have been in Louisiana for the past 5 years going to school and doing pathology research which has been published in various medical journals. I just finished my undergraduate degree in cellular/molecular biology and chemistry and now plan to pursue my masters in Nutrition and Integrative health. I discovered yoga roughly a year ago when I signed up for it on a whim as an elective. It was an instant love connection so I decided to make yoga a more permanent element of my life by getting my first certification through yogafit. I now teach vinyasa flow, which has been an amazing way to transition my life to incorporate yoga on a daily basis. I had no idea when I signed up for that class what impact yoga would have on my life. I have always been interested in the connection between mind, body, and soul but lacked the motivation to change my own lifestyle. Yoga has gifted me with a much greater understanding for the importance of recognizing and nourishing all of myself and not just my body. I have been teaching yoga since last August at a few different fitness centers which has provided me the opportunity to work with many different demographics such as sports performance athletes, senior citizens, and children. I am still very green in the world of yoga and have plenty of space for growth and expansion of my knowledge which I am so excited for!

Taylor Fury

Taylor Fury
Certified BodyFlow Instructor

I have always been interested in doing what is best for my mind, body, and spirit, so when I found yoga in the spring of 2010 I fell in love! I found an instructor on my campus that inspired me and after a couple classes, I realized that I wanted to teach yoga to pass on my love for it as my instructor had done for me. I received training through Les Mills and now currently teach a class called Bodyflow to my peers and professors! But college is coming to an end for me and in May 2012, I will graduate with a Liberal Arts Degree in both Sociology and Psychology from Salisbury University. Now it is time for me to find a new yoga family! I am looking forward to getting to know the staff and the students here at Yin Yang Yoga where I hope to bring something new and exciting to the already spirited dynamic! Here we will all grow together becoming better versions of ourselves; after all we are all students first, teachers second. Yoga is not just stretching, balancing, and challenges; when you open your heart and let it in you find peace, energy, calm, achievement, and flow creating an overall feeling of wellbeing. This and more is my dream in inspiring even just one person. Namaste!

Connie Wilhelm-Miller

Connie Wilhelm-Miller
E-RYT 200 Certified Prana Flow Yoga Instructor

Namaskaram! Rehabilitating a separated shoulder in 2008 (cycling accident), I stumbled into Yin Yang Yoga.  As a former Ocean Beach Life Guard and Cyclist, I was immediately drawn to the hatha aspects Yoga gifted me.  I never left!  My teaching began in 2009 with my first certifications from yoga fit.  Within a year, I yearned for a deeper knowledge of yoga, its essential wisdoms, and the vast richness within its root intelligences.  In 2010, I joined my guru, Alicia Cuervo (the shoulder healer) in a personal immersion into the Veda’s and ancient teachings with the incredible Sumadra living yoga instructor, Maria Garre.  My journey continues as the founder of Ya Ya Yoga Services in 2012.  Continuing to seek further instructions in the sister sciences forever infusing Ayurveda, Jyotisha and Samadhi in my life and practice – I am never far from the Yin Yang family or my guru throughout this journey.  Jai Alicia!

My teaching fuses the energetic Prana Flow®. Shiva Rea inspired Vinyasa flow yoga with the ancient traditional Vedic and yoga wisdoms.  I offer an integrative yet lighthearted approach for beginners and experienced practioners alike.  By honoring the breath, students are drawn into the “river of Prana”, connecting with the universal life force within each of us.  I invite students to experience and transcend in the physical asana, creating space for your own personal conscious evolution and increasing your capacity for compassion and self-revelation.

Laura Koebel

Laura Koebel
RYT 200 Yoga Instructor

Laura was introduced to yoga over a decade ago and she's never looked back. Ashtanga got a hold of her with its highly focused, very disciplined and structured practice. Exploring other approaches such as Bikram, Kundalini, Power and Vinyasa Flow lead her to have a great affinity for the freedom and dynamism of the Vinyasa Flow practice.

Laura was drawn to yoga because it challenged her to be fully present allowing an increased sense of body awareness while grounding and calming of the mind. Yoga continues to affect Laura's life off the mat as she embodies the philosophy teachings and incorporates holistic health into her day-to-day life.

Laura’s approach to teaching yoga is to simply be a source of direction and inspiration, while leaving space for students to find their inner teacher and realize the healing benefits of yoga both on and off the mat. She guides students through a fluid physical practice encouraging a playful sense of curiosity and exploration. Drawing from various styles of yoga, Laura's flows are unique, dynamic and are an energetic expression of yoga that emphasize clarity of alignment and a steady connection to the breath. She encourages her students to play with their edge, while providing a safe, encouraging, and nonjudgmental environment where each individual can work to their full potential.

Being raised in the Canadian Rockies Laura has a deep connection to the outdoors. Outside of yoga Laura enjoys an array of outdoor pursuits including hiking, mountain biking, tennis, climbing, skiing...but most important is Laura's time with her husband Adam and daughter Amira. Off her mat, Laura can also be found making jewellery and mixing essential oil potions.

Gina McConkey

Gina McConkey
RYT 200 Vinyasa Yoga Instructor and YogaFit Kids Yoga Teacher, BA

Gina has been an avid physical fitness enthusiast her entire life.  Having been a competitive gymnast for many years, a gymnastics teacher for children years after competing, routinely working out in the gym, and presently practicing yoga regularly, she has long been committed to a healthy exercise regimen for both herself, and others.  After having an interest in yoga for 5 years and being a student, Gina has decided to make a career change to become a Yoga Teacher.  Gina acquired a 200 Hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Certificate, through Thrive Yoga’s Teacher Training Program in 2013, as well as a YogaFit Kids Certification (teaching grades K-12), through YogaFit Training Systems Worldwide, Inc. in 2009.  Before getting certified, Gina worked with children with special needs for many years.

Gina received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Human Services, and Anthropology, and started a career as a Behavioral Therapist for pre-school children diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, or Autism.  After 15 years in that education field, as the stress of working in the field became more and more prominent in her life, Gina found yoga to be a big stress reliever as well as a love for her passion of fitness at the same time.  Gina is excited and happy to share her new profession with others in the yoga field.

Gina has experience teaching yoga to young children, and is eager to teach yoga to adults, incorporating all that she has learned in her Vinyasa training and own yoga experience, yet also share her compassion for others through teaching yoga.  She hopes to get to know her students well, and hopes they learn to love their own mind, body, and spirit during practices, and everyday life, as much as she does.  She offers freedom in her classes for each individual student to listen to their own bodies and be gentle when needed, yet also to further themselves when desired, to continue to advance their own individual practice.  Gina welcomes those into her class with an open heart and open mind, to share a love of fitness with her, by helping to create balance in their lives through safe yoga practices, smart fitness, and the importance of having fun.  Namaste!
